A significant development unfolds in Zimbabwe’s mining landscape as medium-scale miners convene to establish the Junior Chamber of Miners Zimbabwe (JCMZ), aimed at addressing industry concerns and promoting operational excellence.

Proposed as an affiliate of the Zimbabwe Chamber of Mines, the JCMZ endeavors to work collaboratively across four pivotal committees. These include the Gold Development Committee, the Non-metal Committee chaired by the Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (MMCZ), Safety Health and Training chaired by the Zimbabwe School of Mines, and the Mining Business Development Committee.

At the helm of this initiative stands Mr. Brian Samuriwo of Time Styreming Mining company, elected as president, alongside esteemed executives representing various mining enterprises. Notable appointments include Mr. Prosper Shumba of King Solomon Resources and Mr. Lufeyi Shato, serving as first and second vice presidents, respectively. Mr. Dosman Mangisi, Chief Operation Officer at the Zimbabwe Institute of Foundry, assumes the role of secretary general, with Mr. Panashe Guyo of Panjan Mining company as treasurer.

Speaking after a recent meeting held at the Zimbabwe School of Mines, Mr. Mangisi emphasized the JCMZ’s commitment to advancing the Second Republic’s Vision 2030 of achieving an upper middle-income economy. He underscored the organization’s mandate to address the concerns of small-scale and artisanal miners, vital contributors to Zimbabwe’s mining sector.

With small and medium-scale miners accounting for 59 percent of the 8,198 kilograms of gold produced during the fourth quarter of 2024, Mr. Mangisi stressed the importance of fostering professionalism and compliance within the industry.

The JCMZ aims to collaborate closely with key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development, Zimbabwe Chamber of Mines, Fidelity Printers and Refinery, Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, MMCZ, Minerals Flora and Fauna, Environmental Management Agency, National Social Security Authority, and Zimbabwe School of Mines.

Anticipated to be officially launched during the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair in April, the JCMZ heralds a new era of cooperation and progress within Zimbabwe’s mining sector, driven by a shared vision of national development and prosperity.
