The Chamber of Mines of Zimbabwe kicked off its annual conference today in Victoria Falls, bringing together local and international stakeholders to discuss the industry’s future and its role in the country’s economic development.
Themed “Unlocking Growth Potential for the Zimbabwe Mining Industry,” the conference reflects the industry’s desire to create an environment that fosters sustainable growth and contributes to achieving Vision 2030, Zimbabwe’s economic transformation plan.
A range of events are planned throughout the week, including a critical minerals symposium today featuring Mines Minister Winston Chitando as the guest of honor. International experts from SFA Oxford and representatives from key markets will share insights on critical minerals.
A lithium symposium and a platinum group of metals (PGMs) indaba will follow today’s symposium.
“We will hear from a variety of local, regional, and international experts, including executives from operating mines and new PGMs projects,” said Chamber of Mines President, Mr. Thomas Gono.
The official conference opening on Thursday will feature a keynote address by President Mnangagwa. Other prominent speakers include Dr. John Mushayavanhu, Governor of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, Finance Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube, and Zimra Commissioner General Ms. Regina Chinamasa. Discussions will center on growth imperatives, energy solutions, and financing options for the mining sector.
“We are confident that the conference outcomes will contribute to the mid- to long-term development and growth of the mining industry,” concluded Mr. Gono.
