President Emerson Mnangagwa is set to officially open Kamativi Lithium Mine Tommorow in Hwange Matebeleland North.
President mnangagwa will travel to Kamativi near Hwange to reopen the Kamativi Lithium Mine, once a ghost town after the closure of its tin mining operations in 1994, resulting in significant job losses.
The mine is being revitalized as a lithium mine, utilizing existing infrastructure and processing mine dumps, tapping into renewed investor interest and the burgeoning lithium battery industry.
Deputy Minister of Mines and Mining Development, Polite Kambamura, emphasized that these commissions align with the government’s agenda to expand existing mines and reopen closed ones, as directed by President Mnangagwa in 2018.
The revitalization of Kamativi, in particular, is seen as a testament to the government’s commitment to its investment policy and the ease of doing business.
Meanwhile, the reopening of Kamativi is expected to inject life into the once-desolate mining town, with the discovery of significant lithium deposits in its disused tailings dump sparking renewed economic activity.
Geological surveys indicate the potential for exploiting various minerals beyond lithium, further boosting the region’s economic prospects.
Yesterday, the president opened another gold mine Pickstone Peerless underground gold mine project in Chegutu.
