President Mnangagwa Appoints Winston Chitando as Mines Minister Amid Reshuffle

In a recent mini-reshuffle by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Winston Chitando has been reinstated as the Minister of Mines, a position he held prior to last year’s elections.

Chitando, who previously served as the local government minister, brings a wealth of experience to his renewed role in overseeing Zimbabwe’s mining industry.

His reappointment underscores the government’s confidence in his ability to navigate the challenges facing the sector and drive sustainable growth.

The announcement, made by the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Martin Rushwaya, also included other changes, notably the appointment of Soda Zhemu as the Minister of National Housing and Social Amenities, replacing Chitando in his former position.

All appointments are effective immediately, according to Rushwaya’s statement, indicating a swift response to the evolving needs of the government and the nation.

Zimbabwe’s mining sector plays a pivotal role in the country’s economy, with significant resources such as gold, lithium, and limestone.

As Chitando assumes his role, stakeholders in the mining sector will be closely watching for his strategic vision and policies aimed at fostering responsible mining practices, attracting investment, and maximizing the sector’s contribution to Zimbabwe’s development agenda.
