The Chamber of Mines of Zimbabwe (CoMZ) announced the re-election of its president, Thomas Gono, and its presidium team at its annual general meeting held this week in Victoria Falls. Gono, CEO of Golden Reef, will lead the chamber for another year alongside John Musekiwa (Zimasco) as first vice-president and Munashe Shava (Kuvimba Mining House) as second vice-president.

The conference, themed “Unlocking Growth Potential for the Zimbabwe Mining Industry,” underscores the chamber’s commitment to fostering a thriving mining sector. Gono, who took charge in 2023, has prioritized tackling challenges that hinder mining operations, including power shortages and foreign exchange limitations. These issues have previously contributed to production declines.

The week-long conference aims to create an environment that propels the mining industry forward, aligning with the nation’s Vision 2030 economic transformation goals. The program features a critical minerals symposium, a platinum group metals indaba (PGM indaba), an exhibition, and networking events.

This year’s conference signifies the industry’s determination to overcome obstacles and unlock its full potential, contributing significantly to Zimbabwe’s economic aspirations.
